Peshawar gas leakage explosion kills 2 minors

Two children died, while mother and son wounded in a gas leakage explosion on Pushtakhera Canal Road in the outskirt area on Wednesday. Police sources said that an explosion occurred in the wee hours in a house located at Canal Road Afridiabad, Pushtakhera area resulting in the death of two children, while the mother and a son were injured.

Police said that both the injured have been admitted into the hospital, where their condition is said to be out of danger.

Row erupts over Dilip Kumar’s house in Peshawar

A row has erupted over ownership of Bollywood legend Dilip Kumar’s ancestral house in Peshawar after the provincial government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa took steps to preserve it as national heritage. The government purchased the house from its present occupant Ikramullah in February for Rs30 million.

While the formalities for purchase deed of the dilapidated house have yet not been completed, many claimants of ownership have emerged. Ikramullah has rejected them, saying they are seeking cheap publicity. The house is located in historic Qissa Khawani Bazar in Peshawar and needs repairs and renovation.

Sensitive agencies nab 12 terrorists from Peshawar

Sensitive organizations during an operation arrested 12 terrorists from the vicinity of Tehkal police station, in university town area of Peshawar on late Friday night.

According to a private TV channel sources, the agencies carried out a search operation in Tehkal area of Peshawar and arrested 12 terrorists. Suicide jackets and explosives were recovered from their possession.

PHC orders crackdown on graveyard encroachers

The Peshawar High Court on Tuesday directed the Peshawar district administration to begin a grand operation for removal of encroachments from local graveyards after giving land grabbers seven days to do so voluntarily.

A bench comprising Chief Justice Dost Mohammad Khan and Justice Miftauddin Khan asked the administration to complete the operation within a month, saying the administration will be given freehand to revive historical graveyards in the city to their original shape.

US scholarships to continue for KP, Fata students

The US Consulate General here has said the cancellation of Ambassador Cameron Munter’s speech at the University of Peshawar by the Pakistan government due to security reasons would not have any effect on US support for underprivileged students in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Federally Administered Tribal Areas (Fata).

A press release by the US Consulate General said: “Local and national media have reported statements from the University of Peshawar’s Chairman of Political Science alleging that thousands of U.S.-funded scholarships for university students were withdrawn following the cancellation of Ambassador Cameron Munter’s visit to the university. These statements are not factual.”

Khyber Agency blast leaves 7 dead, nine injured

At least seven people have been killed and other three were injured when blast hit a van in Khyber Agency on Wednesday. The van was on its way to Jamrud from Tirah Valley.

According to sources, the bomb was planted inside the van and exploded while entering Jamrud area of Khyber Agency. Security forces cordoned off the area and the injured have been shifted to nearby hospitals.

Pesco chief stresses power conservation

Chief Executive of the Peshawar Electricity Supply Company (Pesco) Muhammad Wali has underscored the need for a conservation plan to overcome the hours-long power loadshedding in the province.

Speaking at a luncheon hosted by him for the newly elected office-bearers of the Khyber Union of Journalists (KhUJ) and Peshawar Press Club (PPC), the Pesco chief said the company was taking up immediate, short and long-term measures to overcome the power shortages. However, he asked the consumers to conserve energy, as without proper conservation the loadshedding could not be overcome.

PML-N President will participate in the press conference of Amir Muqam wherein the latter will announce to join PML-N in the presence of Mian Nawaz Sharif.

2 soldiers, 21 militants killed in Orakzai clashes

Dozens of militants attacked a Pakistani paramilitary checkpoint overnight, killing two soldiers and sparking clashes which left up to 21 of the militants dead, officials said Friday.

Security officials claimed the militants were killed when troops retaliated with artillery and heavy weapons, but no independent confirmation of the death toll was possible in an area cut off to journalists and aid workers.

Gas pipeline blown up in Peshawar

Suspected militants blew up a gas pipeline at Ring Road in the limits of Bana Mani police station here on Wednesday.

The blast caused suspension of supply of natural gas to many localities of Peshawar including Hayatabad. The blast had taken place for the second time in the area as the same pipeline had been blown up two years ago, said DSP Tariq Khan. An official of Bomb Disposal Squad said that abut one kilogram explosives were used in the blast.
