India role in South Asia by Abdul Quayyum Khan Kundi

“America does not have permanent friends, only permanent interests” is the famous phrase elaborating US approach towards foreign policy. President Obama’s visit to India has proved this point once again. While he refrained from mentioning Pakistan in his speeches but he did boosted the morale of his guests by endorsing Indian permanent membership in the United Nations Security Council. Although this announcement may not actually help gaining the seat but it does indicate that United States considers India its strategic partner in South Asia. This marks the formal departure of India, from being a socialist country, to joining the capitalist block lead by United States of America. In historic perspective this is the unwinding of the final knot of the cold war as India was the strongest ally of former communist superpower USSR in South Asia. In the aftermath of President Obama’s visit, it is important to understand the balance of power in South Asia in this new emerging world order and its effects on Pakistan’s foreign policy options. Af-pak: a shared responsibility

Presidents of Pakistan and Afghanistan are in Washington to hold bilateralk and trillateral talks to discuss the insurgency in Northern in Pakistan.  Special envoy to Af-Pak Holbroke spoke in detail about the US policy for these two countries in his congressional hearing infront of the Foreign Relations Committee. But he did not gave clear answers to some key questions like who are providing financial and material support to Taliban and also the role of Russia and China. More >
